Find out who the true ‘you’ really is
Has this ever happened to you? One day you wake up, you look in the mirror, and then… “OMG! WHO AM I?! WHO IS THIS PERSON LOOKING AT ME IN THE MIRROR?”
We all have those moments, especially during our teen years when so much is changing. So, who are you really? Who is the real ‘you’, and who is the ‘you’ that you sometimes pretend to be? Figuring it out might seem intimidating, but it doesn’t need to be — all you need is a sense of adventure.
Create Yourself
You can be whoever you want to be! What are the things that make you the happiest? What are your talents? What can you do better than anyone else? Are you the fastest runner in your class? The best cook in your family? The funniest girl in your neighborhood? Figure out what you’re great at, and what you love, and then build upon it — you’ll probably learn a thing or two about yourself in the process.
Dewi, a 15-year-old high school student, told us that realizing she had a talent for art which made her explore her creative side. She discovered that she could express and understand her feelings through drawings much better than she could through words. She used her art skills to make her friends laugh, to share love with her family, and to explore her own feelings — whether happy or sad!
Adventure Time, Woohoo!
Are you still unsure of what it is that you’re great at? That’s okay! The only way to know for sure is to try as many different things as you can. Try to do something new every day, even if it feels small or insignificant — and even if you think you might not like it.
Lee, a 20-year-old college student, told us that she would have never decided to study English if she hadn’t joined a lesson in middle school. She didn’t have any interest in language, but her best friends were attending a course and she thought she would join too... just to have more time to hang out with her friends! She never could have expected it, but she fell in love with language learning and now it’s going to be her career.
Believe in Yourself
No matter what you discover about yourself, your interests, and your talents, remember that whoever ‘you’ are, YOU ARE AWESOME. Even when life seems hard and confusing, you should believe in yourself. Don’t be afraid to be who you are and to put yourself out there — every experience is another chance to learn and every mistake is just a funny story to tell your friends later. Believe in yourself, because we believe in you!
